This short, themed itinerary is dedicated to Ugo Miazza, a partisan from Viganella who was killed near the hamlet of Madonna on 24 March 1945. The route is part of the “Percorsi della libertà nel Verbano Cusio Ossola” (Itineraries of Freedom in Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) and it highlights historical moments in the Italian partisan resistance movement during the war.
From the square in Viganella (with a monument to the fallen), take the Strada Antronesca road until the junction for Albarina. Climb uphill on route C09 until the chapel in Albarina, then follow the trail that ventures into town and then heads downhill to the agriturismo of Alberobello. From there, hike down to the paved street and continue on the trail that, passing through the wildlife oasis, leads to the hamlet of Mundà. Follow the paved road for a bit, then turn off to take the boardwalk that leads to Ruginenta. From there, cross the Strada Antronesca (C00 sign posts) and return to Rivera and Viganella.
