The Basodino Tour is a 3-day long ring-shaped itinerary crossing the Formazza Valley and the Bavona Valley (in Switzerland), allowing one to discover about ten Alpine lakes among natural and artificial ones. From Riale to Foroglio we follow a tract of the Alpine Way Red Itinerary (Itinerarion Rosso della “Via Alpina”). Overnight stays take place in mountain huts or small hotels. The Basodino Mountain (3,273 m) comprises the most western Alp of the Lepontine Alps and is covered, on the Swiss side, by a vast glacial cap. A Ticino legend tells about souls of people whom during their lives were neither good nor bad resting on the Basodino glacier; these were sentenced to melt the glacier with the tip of a pin up until their guilt would be expiated.
