Starting from the hostel of Falmenta cross the town in the direction of the church. Here, take the mule track on the left which crosses the upper part of the town and climbs halfway up towards Gurro, skirting the southern flank of Mount Riga. With a last steeper section you will reach Mergugna, climb over the ridge and then go down to Gurro. From here, partly on the path and partly on the road, go up to Piazza where a long stretch begins halfway up the dense woods of the valley alternating downhill sections with uphill sections. The path is quite narrow and with some exposed sections: pay attention especially in autumn with the leaves. This long path leads to Daila and with a final stretch on a beautiful mule track you will reach Provola. From here you can continue to Finero or we recommend taking the old mule track for Ponte Creves which intersects several times the new access road to Provola until reaching the bridge over the Cannobino stream and go up the Strada della Valle Cannobina in Creves. Continue on the carriage road for 350 m until the entrance of the tunnel, then you have to take the old road on the right (closed to cars) which leads to the monument in memory of the massacre of 12 October 1944 in which the partisan commanders Alfredo Di Dio and Attilio Moneta lost their lives. Continue until you cross the tunnel outlet, then continue on the carriage road and at the exit of a further short tunnel turn left on the road to Cursolo which you have to follow up to the town center (a municipal hostel is available).

Notable Items along the Track

The territory of the Cannobina Valley, of particular charm, still retains the appearance of the past. The landscape is marked by the testimonies of traditional peasant life, based on subsistence agriculture. The villages are characterized by unexpected glimpses, ancient houses with votive paintings on the facades, small squares, rustic stone fountains, which are discovered along the narrow pedestrian streets. The stretch of Daila, Provola and Ponte Creves is part of the Valgrande National Park. In Gurro it is possible to visit the Geological Museum and the ethnographic Museum of Gurro and Valle Cannobina which collects traditional objects and customs of the Valley. The visit is structured in environments that reconstruct the typical domestic contexts of the Cannobina Valley. Also in Gurro you can admire the ancient "Casa San Carlo" where the Saint is believed to have slept on his pastoral journey in the valley.
