A ring itinerary to discover the rural villages of Crevoladossola, this is the land of stone and products connected to material culture. The washhouses are particularly symbolic places, as they were vital elements for communal life, social encounters, coming together and generational exchange. The washhouse was also the perfect place for the communication and spread of news relevant to the small community.
From the small square immediately after Crevoladossola’s town hall (the municipio), you’ll find a small staircase (with a yellow sign for Ternaro). At the turnoff for Ternaro, continue straight on the mule track until crossing a steep, narrow paved road that goes on to the hamlet of Castagnolo. From there, take the mule track again as it climbs up to the area of the forebay for the ENEL electric centre (which you’ll cross by taking the bridge) to arrive at the chapel with a portico located near the paved road that leads to Cresto (Ristorante Lo Scarparo). From Cresto, continue along the pretty mule track to reach Cuslone and then Simbo. Just before the hamlet of Simbo, at the river, you can admire the ancient water mill which is quite well preserved. From the oratory in Simbo, continue down the paved road (A09 trail markers) which descends to Enso, flank the marble quarry and then proceed until Pinone and take in its lovely panoramic position. Then drop down on the mule track to Borgo dell’Era and Ternaro until you come to the turnoff from earlier in the hike and the departure point shortly thereafter.
