This ring route, largely on mule tracks and forest tracks, can also be divided into two stages with an overnight stay in the Alpe Solcio refuge. Along the way, you will immerse yourself in a myriad of small pastures that are no longer used, an ancient rural mountain civilization which, although deeply transformed, retains a deep-rooted attachment to the environment as evidenced by the care of the territory.
The itinerary starts from the historic center of Varzo. Take the beautiful mule track that climbs the river that crosses Varzo up to the locality of Colla and then follow the Via Crucis on a beautiful paved mule track that climbs to Durogna. Continue on beautiful mule tracks passing by Casagrande, Dreuza and numerous other pastures, you will reach the Ca' Bianca from where you have to proceed through a dense coniferous forest before emerging in the meadow of Alpe Solcio.
After crossing the Rio S. Giovanni, you will soon reach the excellent Crosta Refuge. To return, go down the consortium track up to Calantigine, then take path F08 which cuts the hairpin bends of the consortium track and descends to Nava and finally to Coggia. From here the mule track descends to Bassogno until it crosses the asphalted road for the hamlet of Castello. Turn left and take the road that goes down to cross the Riale and goes up to the Colla. From here along the outbound mule track you will return to the center of Varzo.
