Path in the Simplon Valley along the old mule track that connected Iselle with Trasquera with continuation to Bugliaga to admire the splendid blooms of the Alpine Tulip.
The route:
The mule track starts before the Iselle customs, reaches Bogo and Pianezza and continues through the woods up to the hamlet of Chiezzo. Cross the road and take the mule track that climbs the well-tended meadows and finally reach the square of the town hall of Trasquera. This ascent route is also called the "Kirsch path" because once in these places the kirsch was distilled and marketed. Of the precious liqueur, today the memory, the label and the spectacular spring blooms of the Trasquera and Bugliaga cherry trees remain. From Trasquera take the mule track that runs along the carriage road (upstream) to the junction for Fraccia, then from here follow the carriage road to Bugliaga from which you can enjoy an amazing view of the great mountains of the Simplon. In the meadows upstream of the small church, between the end of May and the beginning of June, you can admire the splendid blooms of Alpine tulip (Tulipa australis), yellow flower with red streaks, a very rare species south of the Alps and for absolute protection. Along the way you will pass the Ponte del Diavolo, built in 1880: the height is about 100 meters, the arc light measures 33.30 meters.
Note:
To admire the tulip blooms you have to go between late May and early June. From Trasquera it is possible to go down to Varzo along itinerary 07 "La via della Fede di Trasquera". From Trasquera a "didactic route" equipped with 12 information panels goes up to Fraccia, follow the wooden arrows.
